Perth quartet Dulcie have just released their new single Ethereal, and it’s an example of a song title nailing the song’s overall sound. Dulcie are yet to release anything less than an absolute barnstormer, but this is their finest moment yet. If I could write music, I’d want to be writing the type of music that Dulcie makes. The music video, directed by Duncan Wright, captures the beauty of the song, and conveys the gravitas that the music possesses. Ethereal isn’t a piece of disposable music. The recording is a point in time that captures Dulcie in full flight.

For me, when the bassline kicks in is when Ethereal stamps itself as a must-listen. Every part of this track feels like it’s been pulled from an existence where music reigns supreme (then again, for many that’s this existence)! The harmonies that Dulcie are producing are some of Australia’s best, and it’s only a matter of time before they’re playing huge main stage slots at some of Australia’s biggest festivals. I can see their 2021 shows being a constant stream of moments that music fans remember for a lifetime.

Speaking about the track, bandmember Ash recalls how it sprang into life. “Ethereal originally started out as a poem. I was snorkelling down South and was struck by how many different types of fish were all living together in harmony. It made me think about us as people and all our differences and the hope that we can see past these & accept people for who they are with no judgement. To start, I had the words, “What a beautiful thought, to think that we are all equal, we are ethereal souls, masquerading here as people” and then after a bit more work it migrated from poem to song!”

Check out Ethereal below. The track will appear alongside the previously released Dust, as well as two new tracks, on their upcoming debut EP Sake Of Sound, out June 18th. There’s a lot of buzz around Dulcie, both in WA and beyond, and it’s well and truly deserved. Whether it’s on Australian stages, or through their handful of singles, Dulcie are proving that they’re a name you simply can’t ignore. I can’t get this out of my head!
